Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) state-owned air navigation service provider signed a contract with Comsoft, of Karlsruhe, Germany, to modernize the island nation’s air traffic management (ATM) and surveillance systems to the latest international standard. The parties announced the contract in Port Moresby, PNG’s capital, on March 28.

Bell Helicopter has named Sameer Rehman director of international trade support for commercial sales and marketing. He was previously managing director for the Textron subsidiary’s commercial business in Asia Pacific. To succeed him, Bell promoted C.M. Hwang, formerly commercial business development manager for Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Singapore.

A court in Papua New Guinea (PNG) convicted Australian pilots Andrew Reid and Peter McGee of making an illegal landing in a Cessna Citation II at the disused Kieta airstrip, near Aropa on the island of Bougainville. The court imposed fines of more than $100,000, but the pilots avoided the 12-month jail terms the nation’s civil aviation authority (CAA) demanded.
