On June 3 the Air and Space Museum, located here in the historical buildings of the former Le Bourget airport passenger terminal, held the grand opening of the restored “Salle des Huit Colonnes” (“Hall of the Eight Pillars”) in art deco style­–the spectacular heart of the 1,100-foot-long building. The restoration is part of a €25 million ($32 million) project encompassing the institution’s entire premises.

The French government has selected an area to build what it calls a third airport to serve Paris, but the area is in Chaulnes, a distant 85 mi north of the capital. The new airport, which is expected to be operational in 2015, will ostensibly be served by an already planned high-speed rail link to Paris, and two existing highways.

Twin Jet, the largest French operator of Beechcraft 1900 turboprops since the demise last year of R-lines, continues its growth following the addition in March of two new regional routes. By year-end it expects to add at least two more links.

Last month Air France Industries opened an €84 million ($103 million) maintenance facility adjacent to Paris Orly Airport with a new work organization system to cater to the constant increase in third-party customers. While inaugurating the 441,000-sq-ft site, Air France chairman Jean-Cyril Spinetta outlined AFI’s bold aim to improve performance by halving turnaround time and cutting production costs by 15 percent.

The long-term redevelopment of Paris Le Bourget Airport (Booth No. 1229) takes a further step forward with the opening at the end of this month of a brand-new terminal to house two business aircraft operators/FBOs and several offices of other aviation-related companies.
