The Air Charter Safety Foundation (ACSF) released its updated safety review of the on-demand air charter industry yesterday. The “Part 135 Incident/Accident Review” takes a comprehensive look at the factors surrounding charter incidents and accidents from 2004 to the end of last year.

Eclipse Aerospace received FAA approval for its newly redesigned PhostrEx fire-suppression system canister on the Eclipse 500. The new, all-welded canister stores contents at a lower pressure, resolving the leakage problems the original design encountered. The improved PhostrEx canister was tested extensively and consistently met all design specifications, Eclipse said.

The FAA has issued a request for comments on a final rule for an Airworthiness Directive (AD) for SICLI Halon 1211 portable fire extinguishers installed on various models of airplanes and rotorcraft, including some models built by Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Embraer and Eurocopter.

The bankrupt status of Eclipse Aviation finally ended in August after Eclipse Aerospace bought the assets of the very light jet manufacturer for $40 million. On September 1, Eclipse Aerospace founders Mason Holland and Michael Press joined Albuquerque mayor Martin Chávez to celebrate the reopening of the factory at Eclipse’s headquarters at Albuquerque International Air- port.

Eclipse Aviation unveiled its home-grown PhostrEx fire-suppression system for the Eclipse 500 today at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis. According to the Albuquerque, N.M.-based company, its recently FAA-certified PhostrEx system weighs 90 percent less than a Halon fire-suppression system since two teaspoons of PhostrEx is equivalent to 2.5 cups of Halon.
