Some 200 companies will be exhibiting at the three-day Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE), which starts next Tuesday at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. Organized by NBAA in partnership with the Shanghai Airport Authority, the event will be located once more at the Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre–a joint venture between the Shanghai Airport Authority and Hawker Pacific–with the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) co-hosting the event.

A no-reserve auction held on January 10 in a warehouse just a mile from Avantair’s former Clearwater (Fla.) Airport headquarters raised a “couple of million” dollars for the estate of the bankrupt fractional aircraft company, according to auctioneer Starman Bros. Auctions. Citing rules under bankruptcy laws, auctioneer president Steve Starman told AIN that he couldn’t provide a more detailed account of the funds raised. The counsel for Avantair’s bankruptcy trustee didn’t respond to AIN’s queries asking for a more accurate figure.

Starman Brothers Auctions has released the time and address for Friday’s auction of assets from bankrupt Avantair. The auction will start at 9 a.m. at 13000 Automobile Boulevard, Suite 501, in Clearwater, Fla., with a preview day on Thursday at the same site. The auctioneer’s website has a complete listing of assets to be sold, including Piaggio Avanti fuselages, aircraft tugs, golf carts, automobiles, a custom motorcycle and various aircraft parts, shop equipment, office furniture and computers.

The assets of bankrupt fractional provider Avantair will be auctioned off next month at a warehouse about a mile from the company’s former headquarters at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport in Florida. According to court documents, the auction is being held off-site from its headquarters to address airport security concerns, especially since the building is adjacent to a National Guard air unit.

Piaggio Aero and Selex ES revealed here yesterday that the first flight of the P.1HH HammerHead Demo unmanned aircraft system (UAS) technology demonstrator took place on November 14 at Trapani air force base in Italy.

The demonstrator took off at 110 knots rotation speed and flew over the Mediterranean Sea for approximately 12 minutes while being remotely piloted from a ground-control station. The flight was conducted with the aircraft in mid-flap configuration, with landing gear extended, with it reaching an altitude of 2,000 feet and a speed of 170 knots.
