Pilatus has sold its first $3.35 million Next Generation PC-12 to a Brazilian operator.

Kansas City Aviation Center (KCAC) has obtained an STC to install the retrofit EFI-890R cockpit from Universal Avionics in the Pilatus PC-12. The upgrade replaces the turboprop single's original EFIS 40 suite with three 8.9-inch flat-panel displays and includes options for synthetic vision, electronic charts and satellite weather. Including installation, the price for the cockpit upgrade runs from $325,000 to $398,000, depending on options.

The FAA granted Innovative Solutions & Support an STC on September 14 for installation of two and four 10-inch display units in the Pilatus PC-12. Like its previous PC-12 approval for installation of two 15-inch display units, IS&S’ new STC includes the cockpit/information portal and TCAS, TAWS and RVSM compatibility.

Pilatus chose Honeywell’s Sunday evening media event to announce a Next Generation PC-12 featuring a more powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engine and a four-tube Honeywell Apex integrated avionics suite.

Enormous banners that hung from the façade of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando last month proclaimed the NBAA Convention offered “A year’s worth of business in just three days.” It certainly felt that way.

The record-setting event held from October 17 to 19 was a showcase for airplane introductions, product rollouts and announcements of stratospheric order tallies.

After several years of weak sales in Brazil, Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus recently announced plans to remedy the situation by signing OceanAir Táxi Aéreo as its new sales representative in that country.

A new pitch actuator will be required in some 330 U.S.-registered Pilatus PC-12s if the FAA adopts a proposed AD. The directive will require certain flap and autopilot limitations until the new actuator is installed. Pilatus reports the new actuator, which removes the flap-in-motion signal to the autopilot, is designed to prevent an abrupt nose-down pitch when the autopilot is disengaged while the flaps are at a 40-degree setting.

Pilatus’ PC-12 turboprop single will receive several upgrades next year, raising the base price of the aircraft by $80,000 to $2.79 million and a typically equipped aircraft to $3.4 million. Mtow goes up to 10,450 pounds from 9,920 pounds for a 530-pound increase in useful load. New winglets will reduce drag and improve crosswind control, and Flettner tabs on the ailerons will reduce roll control forces, Pilatus said.

Western Aircraft of Boise, Idaho, a Pilatus sales and service center since 1996, has appointed OK3 Air on Heber Valley Municipal Airport of Heber City, Utah, an authorized satellite service center for the Pilatus PC-12.
