Merritt Island, Fla.-based Comp Air is developing an all-composite, pressurized single-engine turboprop called the Model 12. CEO Ron Lueck estimates that it will cost $150 million to get the airplane certified. Lueck has been designing homebuilt/kit aircraft since the 1980s, but the Model 12 will require a separate corporate structure and production facility to meet FAA standards.
Fresh from the announcement by Pilatus (Booth No. 1397) that is posting another record year for sales of its single-engine utility PC-12 turboprop, the Swiss company said it is set to deliver more airplanes next year and in 2010 than it will this year despite a rise in the base price of the PC-12NG (Next Generation). Pilatus this year opened a new factory with room for two assembly lines.
Pilatus Aircraft of Broomfield, Colo., has commissioned BMW DesignWorks USA of Southern California to develop nine identically priced interior designs for the $3.3 million (typically equipped) PC-12 turboprop single. Each design offers a combination of woods, fabrics, leather, carpeting and plating intended to reflect the “modern, progressive trends” of luxury automobile interiors.
The FAA has granted avionics display provider Barco FAR Part 145 repair station authorization at the Belgium company’s service center in Duluth, Ga. The approval enables Barco to perform maintenance on control display units and flight displays used in a variety of airplanes, including the Pilatus PC-12, Grob SPn, Boeing 737-700, Lockheed C-130J and Lockheed C-5.

Innovative Solutions & Support has announced upgrades to its avionics for the Pilatus PC-12, including enhanced features for current and future owners and a significant new sales channel. Key enhancements include a single-side cockpit option, wide area augmentation system (WAAS) and reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) certification.
Two more OEMs–Spectrum Aeronautical and Viking Air– have selected Honeywell’s Primus Apex avionics suite. Spectrum selected Apex for its S-40 Freedom midsize jet and Viking Air for the resurrected DHC-6-400 Twin Otter. This brings to four the number of airplanes that will feature the Primus Apex suite, the other two being Grob’s SPn and the new Pilatus PC-12 NG, which is the first Primus Apex-equipped airplane to enter service.
Pilatus in late May celebrated the start of customer deliveries of the PC-12 NG during a ceremony at its U.S. headquarters in Broomfield, Colo. The milestone was celebrated by Pilatus employees and Western Aircraft, the Boise, Idaho-based PC-12 sales and service center for the Northwest.
Testing of the Ibis Aerospace Ae270 Propjet single has reached a milestone of one lifetime of airframe cycles during testing, representing 20,000 simulated flight hours of stress and fatigue analysis. The program will continue to 80,000.
Pilatus Aircraft announced here an expanding suite of maintenance support choices for PC-12 customers under the umbrella name of ServiceWorx. Options include PlaneTrax Electronic Maintenance & Flight Data Tracking and Diagnostix Propulsion Monitoring. Both programs are offered at no charge to customers of new PC-12s for the first year of ownership ($2,000 annually thereafter for PlaneTrax; $995 annually for Diagnostix).
