Further, Bass said Piper could cut more personnel “if it gets worse,” adding that the manufacturer could reduce its production output by up to 40 percent this year due to the slowdown in sales of general aviation aircraft.

Some 4,610 VLJs worth $9.54 billion (2008 $) will be delivered during this 10-year period, PMI says.

Vero Beach, Fla.-based Piper Aircraft today announced a 24-percent increase in third-quarter deliveries and an increase in year-over-year deliveries of 18 percent, resulting in a $25 million increase in billings compared with the same period last year. The manufacturer delivered 195 aircraft worth $150.5 million in the first nine months, compared with 166 deliveries worth $125 million during the same period last year.

Piper Aircraft president Jim Bass has laid out a clear strategy for carrying the company into the next decade by expanding its line of cabin-class singles, from piston-powered models to the PiperJet. Bass said the company has no plans to adopt Cessna’s style of capturing clientele with light sport aircraft and then moving them up the product line.

Piper Aircraft confirmed today that it will bring its PiperJet prototype to the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla., early next month. The aircraft manufacturer held a two-day dealer event this week at its Vero Beach, Fla. headquarters to give dealers, customers and prospective customers a sneak peek of the $2.2 million single-engine jet.
