US Airways’ plans for new code-share partner Air Wisconsin finally crystallized last month, when the major airline loaded new schedules showing the Appleton, Wis.-based regional’s Bombardier CRJ200s on a host of routes from Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C.

Strong wind gusts from August 5 thunderstorms collapsed part of the roof of a new maintenance hangar under construction for Chautauqua Airlines at Louisville International Airport. None of the construction workers on the scene at the time sustained injuries. The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of up to 53 miles per hour at the airport at the time of the collapse.

Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Mich., now has a new 14,700-sq-ft, climate-controlled corporate jet hangar, as well as two beefed-up ramps. The announcement marks the culmination of two key expansion projects investing more than $7.5 million in Michigan’s second-busiest commercial airport. The new jet hangar, constructed by Northern Jet Management, will house up to nine aircraft.

Construction was scheduled to begin before the end of last year on converting private Air Rice Airport on Houston’s west side into a public business aviation facility, to be known as South Waller Airport, initially with a 4,500-foot runway. Its private developers plan to extend the runway to 7,000 feet as the airport grows.

AirCare’s Facts safety training company is now basing a mobile emergency procedures cockpit/cabin simulator at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. The simulator can be scheduled for on-site training at flight departments throughout the Southeast.

In a move advertised as another triumph for Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell’s economic stimulus plan, Republic Airlines has agreed to establish a new overnight maintenance facility and crew base at Pittsburgh International Airport that will employ between 60 and 70 mechanics and 60 to 70 pilots and flight attendants.
