Timken has acquired assets of Gilbert, Ariz.-based Extex, which specializes in manufacturing FAA-approved aftermarket parts for turbine engines. During its 13 years of operation, Extex expanded its portfolio of parts manufactured under FAA parts manufacturer approval (PMA) regulations to serve three powerplant lines–the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6, Honeywell auxiliary power units and the Rolls-Royce 250.

The FAA recently stopped short of chiding OEMs for threatening to invalidate warranties if FAA-approved PMA (parts manufacturing approval) parts are used in place of OEM parts, but the agency did underscore the legality and interchangeability of such parts.

PMA manufacturers might have a harder time exporting their civilian aircraft parts due to a new International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) rule issued by the State Department, according to the Modification and Replacement Parts Association (MARPA).

PMA parts maker Extex is finding current business so good it has embarked on an ambitious new expansion program. Newly appointed personnel include a broader marketing team anchored by industry veteran Dave Daniels from Honeywell, where he held key positions in marketing and product support. As vice president of sales and marketing, Daniels also joins division newcomers Claudia Becker, Dwayne Brittingham and Mike McNabb.

Rosen Aviation said it has received FAA approval for 25 cabin entertainment system components. Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) was obtained for products relating to display systems, the RosenView LX moving map, a single-disc DVD player, various connector kits, arm mounts and harnesses.

Aftermarket parts manufacturer Heico has jump-started sales of FAA-approved PMA replacement parts to airlines with a new agreement it signed with British Airways in early May. Heico, with its subsidiary Seal Dynamics (Hall 2B Stand L14D), will not only sell PMA parts to British Airways but will manage the airline’s PMA parts buying activities.
