The National Transportation Safety Board dispatched a team yesterday to assist with the investigation into Saturday’s accident in Georgetown, Guyana, involving a Caribbean Airlines Boeing 737-800 that broke in two after overshooting the runway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport. The airplane crashed through a chain-link fence and came to rest on a dirt road that ran adjacent to a deep ravine.

Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport is now closed to general aviation and non-scheduled commercial traffic between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. The airport, which recently obtained civil certification, formerly received infrastructure support from the U.S. military for 24/7 ATC operations and aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF).

Jet Aviation has made several key personnel changes. Johannes Turzer, formerly v-p and general manager at Jet Aviation Dusseldorf, is now v-p and accountable manager of maintenance services at Jet Aviation Basel. Sebastian Groeger, v-p and general manager at Jet Aviation Singapore, will succeed Turzer at Dusseldorf. Philippe Crevier has moved into the v-p and general manager spot at Jet Aviation Singapore.

Offshore oil and gas operator Bristow is divesting its holdings in Nigeria’s Pan African Airways (PAAN) to Nigerian ownership to comply with the country’s new Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Development Act. PAAN’s helicopters, mostly Bell 412s, 407s and 206s, will now operate under separate livery and out of company and customer bases in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and Escravos.

Eurocopter has opened a new global logistics facility in Les Florides industrial park near its production plant in Marignane in the south of France. It joins a logistics distribution system that includes facilities in Donauwörth, Germany; Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, France; and Hong Kong as well as customer service centers in both Hong Kong and Dallas.

Middle East-based flight operations group Nexus is moving into Africa with plans to establish a flight operations center (FOC) in the Rwandan capital Kigali. Nexus has just signed a memorandum of understanding for the project with the Rwanda Development Board.
