According to the NTSB, the Flight Options Beechjet 400A (N455CW) that experienced a dual flameout over the Gulf of Mexico on July 12 last year had a lower-than-normal amount of anti-icing additives in its tanks. Both Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D turbofans failed as the twinjet was descending through 39,000 feet about 100 miles off Florida’s west coast.

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) opened a distribution center in Amsterdam, eliminating the need for many customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa to get parts sent from Canada and, in many cases, allowing them to receive orders in less than 24 hours.

On June 14, Beechjet 400A N440DS lost all power from both Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5 engines while the airplane was in cruise flight at FL380 near Norfolk, Va. Unsure if they could remain clear of clouds, the pilots decided to turn on the engine anti-ice.

In the aftermath of four dual flameouts involving P&WC JT15D-powered Beechjets, the NTSB on Friday issued an urgent recommendation to help prevent further incidents on Beechjets and a broader recommendation calling on the FAA to work with engine and airplane OEMs to develop an ice detector for new engines, as well as for retrofit.

Details emerged about two more very light jets (VLJs) during last month’s Latin American Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition in Brazil, a fitting venue since both aircraft are being developed in the South American country. One is from Embraer, and the other is a $2 million to $2.5 million twinjet version of the former single-engine VisionAire Vantage.

Pratt & Whitney Canada CSC (Africa) is offering engine overhaul services following an expansion project at its South Africa facility located at the Lanseria International Airport in Johannesburg. The facility now offers comprehensive engine overhaul services for the PT6A.

Dallas Airmotive also recently announced that it has opened a regional turbine center in Millville, N.J. The 8,000-sq-ft facility supports turbine aircraft operators in the Northeastern U.S. and is located at Millville Municipal Airport adjacent to the company’s maintenance hangar. Last year Dallas Airmotive closed Millville engine overhaul operations.
