BBA Aviation’s engine repair and overhaul division has added 16 new engine models to its existing authorizations on Pratt & Whitney Canada engines. The additions encompass eight new variants of the PT6A, seven variants of the PW100 and one variant of the PW500.

Pratt & Whitney Canada president Alain Bellemare said at a press conference here yesterday that he was optimistic about the continued growth of the engine business, adding that the firm is in a better position than in past downturns because of P&WC’s wide areas of application. He said he believes that when the market starts picking up, this diversity will be useful for the company.
Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has added 200 production workers and is opening a new assembly line for the PT6T TwinPac, the engines that power the Bell 212 and 412, at its Saint-Hubert, Quebec plant. The Saint-Hubert facility will also continue to operate as a major overhaul and repair facility.
Pratt & Whitney Canada is seeing its engines enter service on three new business airplanes this year–the Dassault Falcon 7X, Cessna Mustang and Eclipse 500–and the powerhouse has made it a priority to advance support activities that previously would have been spread over a longer time, Maria Della Posta, vice president of customer support, told NBAA Convention News.
Pratt & Whitney Canada has won the contract to power Eurocopter’s EC 175, a new 6.7-metric-ton helicopter that will fill the gap between the EC 155 Dauphin and EC 255 Super Puma. The PT6C-67E turbine engine selected for the helicopter will be the first dual-channel Fadec-controlled PT6 from Pratt & Whitney Canada, noted company president Alain Bellemare.

Dallas Airmotive has commissioned a new PW300 and PW500 repair and overhaul facility at its Forest Park production center in Dallas. The 13,000-sq-ft facility follows the company’s 2004 appointment by Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) as a designated overhaul facility for the engines. Adjacent to the facility is a new test cell, calibrated to P&WC standards and certified by the engine OEM.
Dallas Airmotive is adding component repair capability for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A/T, JT15D and PW300/ PW500 engine series to its Lafayette, La. facility. It already supports numerous offshore operators using the Rolls-Royce 250 engine.
