Mitsubishi’s Regional Jet is entering the production drawing phase, which could signal the beginning of parts production for the new jet. Pratt & Whitney has completed assembly of its first PurePower PW1524G engine for the Bombardier C Series. The company held a so-called "last bolt" ceremony today at its Middletown Engine Center in Connecticut to commemorate the milestone. Pratt plans to deliver the engine to its West Palm Beach, Fla. facility later this month to start testing.

For Irkut, Pratt’s willingness to spend the resources necessary to adapt a 30,000-pound-thrust version of the PW1000G to power a hypothetical Russian airliner lent some much desired credibility to the still relatively obscure program.
