Avidyne and Aspen Avionics demonstrated Avidyne’s new digital autopilot interfaced with Aspen’s EFD1000 Pro primary flight display (PFD) last month in two flight-test aircraft: a Cessna 182 and a Cirrus SR22. The DFC90 is currently certified in Cirrus SRs and Piper PA-46s equipped with Avidyne Entegra displays.

Phoenix Heliparts and Aspen Avionics, manufacturer of the Evolution flight display system, are preparing to receive an FAA supplemental type certificate for the installation of Aspen’s H-series primary flight displays (PFD) and multifunction flight displays (MFD) in the MD500. Aspen’s H-series PFD and MFD systems are designed and manufactured specifically for the helicopter operational environment.

Avidyne has received approval from Brazil’s Agência Nacional De Aviação Civil (ANAC) for retrofit installation of the DFC90 autopilot in Brazilian-registered Entegra-equipped Cirrus aircraft. The DFC90 is an attitude-based digital autopilot system designed as a slide-in replacement for the S-Tec 55X autopilot in existing Entegra-equipped Cirrus SR20s and SR22s.
The trend toward “plug and play” replacement of legacy electromechanical instrumentation with electronic glass displays continues into the rotorcraft market with an STC won by Aspen Avionics authorizing installation of its EFD1000H flight display system in Bell 206 and 407 panels. A full-function simulator at the Aspen booth (No. 2304) demonstrates the system’s versatility, ease of installation and user-friendly pilot-machine interface.
