According to an industry source, Piaggio will announce more improvements for the P.180 Avanti twin turboprop before year-end. While the source wouldn’t discuss more details, one of the most obvious areas that Piaggio has yet to address is the Avanti’s unmistakable whine, which has led to its being the only modern turboprop banned under noise restrictions at Santa Monica (Calif.) Airport.

Three new service centers located in Fort Lauderdale, Toronto and Montreal have been added to the Piaggio Aero network. West Star Aviation in East Alton, Ill., received a similar designation two months ago. According to a Piaggio spokesman, an additional center is scheduled to be opened in Calgary, Canada, early next year. Piaggio Aero’s authorized service centers provide factory-authorized maintenance and modification on all Piaggio Avantis.
When Dornier Seaplane (Static Display) debuted its amphibious Seastar at last year’s NBAA Convention, CEO Joe Walker outlined a number of goals, including the need to select a production location, develop a production plan, upgrade the demonstrator airplane and garner at least 25 orders to launch the program.
