Eurocopter held an inauguration event last month to celebrate its new manufacturing center of excellence in Querétaro, Mexico. The facility is located at the Aerotech Industrial Park. In addition to manufacturing tail booms for Ecureuil helicopters, the center also makes structures for Airbus doors and houses a new 11,000-sq-ft Ecureuil maintenance facility. Eurocopter has been active in Mexico for 50 years and also celebrated the 30th anniversary of its Eurocopter de Mexico subsidiary. In Querétaro, Eurocopter will create about 200 jobs.

Bombardier Aerospace’s all-composite Learjet 85 is on track to enter service in 2013, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer announced at Ebace. Development and production teams in Wichita; Montreal; Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Querétaro, Mexico, are actively engaged as work has transitioned from the detail design phase to the build, test and validate phase.

Bombardier Aerospace’s all-composite Learjet 85 is on track for entry-into-service in 2013, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer said this week at EBACE. Development and production teams in Wichita; Montreal; Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Querétaro, Mexico, are actively engaged as work has transitioned from the detail design phase to the build, test and validate phase.

Bombardier Aerospace officially inaugurated its new Learjet 85 component manufacturing facility at the Queretaro Aerospace Park in Mexico. Construction of the 185,000-sq-ft center was completed in July, and fabrication of development parts started soon afterward. Parts for the first Learjet 85 are now being built, Bombardier said.

Bombardier’s Learjet 85 program continues to move forward or, perhaps more accurately, south, with plans to produce all primary structural components of the all-composite aircraft in Querétaro, Mexico, about 130 miles north of Mexico City.

Mexico’s fast-growing aerospace sector is here at the Paris Air Show in strength once again (Hall 3 Stand D24), and the latest projections for its future suggest it is set to get bigger still in the next six years or so. Much of the growth in the past few years has come from foreign OEMs opening new facilities and expanding existing properties in their increasingly urgent pursuit of lower production costs and access to markets.

While the composite structure, electrical harness and sub-assembly installation for Bombardier’s new Learjet 85 will be done at its Querétaro facility in Mexico, final assembly and interior completion work will be done at the company’s Wichita facility…Aero Toy Store has completed a new 45,000-sq-ft expansion in Montreal, including the 15,000-sq-ft completion center.

Bombardier has assembly plants in Wichita, Toronto and Montreal and manufacturing plants in Montreal, Belfast in the UK, and Querétaro in Mexico. But Pierre Beaudoin, Bombardier president and chief operating officer, dismisses the notion that manufacturing in high-cost economies is an anachronism.
