With 319 Beechcraft-built T-6 trainers delivered to date and almost 500,000 flight hours to their credit, Raytheon has concluded that the time is ripe to launch the AT-6 joint airborne weapons system derivative. Promoted as a platform for the net-centric battlefield, the AT-6 has been readied for its new mission by the addition of sensors, datalink, cockpit protection and various weapons configurations.

“Overall, Raytheon Aircraft had the best quarter” in its history in terms of financial performance, said William Swanson, chairman and CEO of parent Raytheon Company. According to the company’s first quarter results released this morning, Raytheon Aircraft delivered 44 business jets and turboprops compared with 27 in the same period a year ago. In the quarter, the company booked orders for 45 turbine airplanes versus 34 last year.
Coming off an all-time record for billings and a four-year high in new turbine airplane deliveries in 2005, the industry continued flying high in the first-quarter of this year. “Manufacturers have recorded the highest first quarter billings in history,” according to General Aviation Manufacturers Association figures released Friday.
Raytheon Aircraft yesterday reached the FAA’s five-year time limit for certification of the Hawker 4000 (née Horizon) under Part 25 amendments that existed at the time of type certification application. In anticipation of not receiving type certification before the deadline, Raytheon applied for an extension on May 11, and today the FAA granted an extension of seven months, to December 31.
Raytheon Aircraft Services (RAS) sent a letter dated May 31 alerting customers that it is selling its Atlantic City, N.J. facility to FBO Midlantic Jet Aviation. The sale will mark the end of Raytheon maintenance at Atlantic City because Midlantic won’t take over this work, and leaves RAS with eight factory-owned service maintenance facilities in the U.S., but none in the northeast.
Making its debut this week at the Farnborough International show, Raytheon’s Airborne Stand-off Radar (ASTOR) system will be delivered to the Royal Air Force (RAF) in stages over the next year. Comprising five modified Bombardier Global Express business jets and eight ground stations, ASTOR is a major new ground surveillance capability for the UK. Raytheon is now looking for additional customers.
Raytheon's long and bumpy road toward type certification of the Hawker 4000 has taken another twist. Because of its already lengthy certification process–the FAA recently granted a seven-month extension, to December 31–the Hawker 4000 has to meet certain Part 25 amendments that went into effect in the seven months after the aircraft's May 31, 2001 type certification application date.
Lockheed Martin at the Air Traffic Control Association Convention on Monday announced its bidding team for the FAA’s nationwide automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) program. The team includes ground station manufacturers Sensis and Rannoch, and avionics integrator Honeywell and secure network communications specialist Harris.
Raytheon Aircraft delivered 39 jets and 36 King Airs in the third quarter of this year compared with 29 jets and 27 King Airs in the same period last year, according to figures released last Thursday at Raytheon’s third-quarter earnings conference call. The deliveries bring this year’s nine-month total to 187 turbine airplanes, compared with 158 for the period last year.
