Avcon Industries expects to have FAA group approval for its RVSM equipment package for Learjet 35s and 36s by the NBAA Convention later this month. The Newton, Kan. company is also working with Stevens Aviation on a Universal Avionics glass cockpit for the Learjet 20 and 30 series.
Reduced Vertical Separation Minima
Business Jet Technologies, the co-developer of the Quiet Technologies Stage 3 hush kit for the Gulfstream II/IIB, has launched avionics upgrade programs for the aircraft models based on the recent mandates for terrain awareness and warning systems (TAWS) and reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM) equipment.

Now that much of the world has applied reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM) standards in the upper flight levels, it was only a matter of time before forward-thinking China followed suit.
Effective September 1, operators are required to use a new set of flight plan aircraft equipment suffixes to indicate advanced navigation capabilities. Pilots must use J, K, L or a newly defined Q to specify advanced Rnav and RVSM capabilities. They should continue to use a W to indicate RVSM capability only. The revised list also contains significant changes to the definitions of E and F.
Conquest II operators can once again fly above 28,000 feet, thanks to the recent RVSM approval of an autopilot manufactured by S-Tec and STC’d for installation in the airplane.
The FAA has reiterated its request that pilots submit information on wake turbulence encounters that occur in domestic RVSM airspace, including the U.S., offshore airspace and the San Juan flight information region, via the NASA-operated Aviation Safety Reporting System.
Butler National subsidiary Avcon Industries has completed its first installation of its reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM) solution for Learjet 35 and 36 airplanes. The Avcon Learjet 35/36 RVSM solution will allow airplanes to operate with reduced vertical spacing at altitudes of 29,000 feet through 41,000 feet. Avcon has received RVSM orders for delivery in the first quarter of this year.
Revue Thommen, the Swiss instrument maker, last month opened a U.S. sales office in Addison, Texas, that company officials said will serve as the base of operations for a push into the business aviation market.
