“Business is looking up,” Western Jet Aviation shop supervisor Jason Mann told AIN during NBAA 2013. “I’ve taken about a dozen phone calls for pre-buy tech inspections just this month,” he continued, explaining that these inspections often turn into refurbishment work for the company. Western Jet recently tripled its avionics shop space and went from two to seven technicians to keep up with the work.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority board of trustees chose Million Air as the winner of a request for proposals to build a new FBO at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, and now the negotiation process for the lease of the property is under way. “We have been advanced to the final stages of lease negotiations,” said a Million Air spokeswoman.

Two FBOs at Reno-Tahoe International Airport are not going to renew their upcoming leases, and the airport has released a request for proposals (RFP) for a new FBO to replace them. “Reno-Tahoe is the 62nd busiest commercial airport in the country and has a large corporate and general aviation customer base,” the airport explained.

On March 30 next year Dassault Falcon will open its newest factory-owned service center at Nevada’s Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The service center will be housed in a 38,000-sq-ft former American Airlines hangar. Dassault will hire and train 18 mechanics for the opening, and that number is expected to grow to 40 in five years.

The Airport Authority of Washoe County (AAWC) in Nevada recently dedicated the Reno/Tahoe International Airport’s B concourse in honor of business jet pioneers Bill and Moya Lear. Now known as the Lear Concourse, the 11-gate complex will have an exhibit of historical artifacts from the Lear archives.
