Sydney, Australia-based Aerosafe, which specializes in aviation risk-management, is introducing three new accredited training courses at Heli-Expo’13. The courses focus on safety-management systems, risk management and regulatory oversight and, according to the company, provide training that is not currently available anywhere else.

ExecuJet Africa has partnered with international risk management company MS Risk to offer emergency response plans for clients with staff based at remote locations in Africa. Under the new Urgent Response Plan (URP) service, ExecuJet and MS Risk will work with clients’ human resources and safety managers to develop evacuation plans for those companies that do not currently have one in place or integrate services into an existing program. The URP will also include intelligence reporting, remote site visits, ground and air service options and logistics coordination.

Helicopter EMS provider Air Evac Lifeteam has entered the third level of the FAA’s safety management system (SMS) voluntary pilot project. Air Evac has 110 bases in 15 states and has been enrolled in the pilot project since February 2010. Dave Hardin, Air Evac’s director of safety, characterizes the company’s participation in the pilot project as a “challenging, but beneficial, process in the interest of safety.” Air Evac is only the third Part 135 operator to progress beyond Level 2, according to the FAA.

According to the company, the FRM solution takes into consideration crewmembers’ predicted levels of fatigue when generating and maintaining crew schedules.

The FAA this week released a new Information for Operators dealing with risk assessment, and specifically how it relates to a safety-management system. The tool discusses the various risks associated with a flight, how to handle them and what may be considered an acceptable risk.
