While the number of fatal accidents involving turbine-powered business airplanes declined slightly through the first nine months of this year compared with last year, those accidents took a larger toll, according to statistics compiled by Boca Raton, Fla.-based safety analyst Robert E. Cessna said it will offer a TKS “weeping wing” anti-icing system for the Cessna Grand Caravan starting next March, using a system manufactured by Aerospace Systems & Technologies of Salina, Kan. The Cessna system will include laser-drilled titanium TKS panels installed on the leading edges of the wings, wing struts and horizontal and vertical stabilizers.

Convertibles get a bad rap from some diehard sports-car purists who dismiss them as semi-serious boulevard cruisers a notch down from where they should be with the rigidity of a hardtop. When the man from BMW said the M6 to be delivered for this evaluation would be a convertible, my sense of anticipation encountered a mild downdraft. Perhaps unfairly, what came to mind were rattles, body shake and the damp aroma that can blight drop-tops.
