Stan Wilson has been promoted to president of Columbia Helicopters (Booth No. C811). A member of the Columbia team since 1986, Wilson was vice president of finance for the past 13 years. The move has long been planned, according to Columbia. “Our company’s current global economic outlook has finally offered us the opportunity to implement some changes we have been planning for some time,” said former president and CEO Mike Fahey, who will remain as CEO.

GE Aviation has acquired Morris Technologies and sister company Rapid Quality Manufacturing, of Cincinnati, Ohio, as part of a planned expansion of engineering and manufacturing capability. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. The two privately held companies specialize in additive manufacturing, an automated process for creating rapid prototypes and end-use production components.

GE Aviation is currently gathering hardware for the assembly of the first Passport engine for the Bombardier Global 7000 and 8000 program. Assembly of the first full engine will begin by year end, according to Brad Mottier, vice president and general manager of GE Aviation’s Business and General Aviation organization.

Aircraft Service International Group (Asig) has signed an exclusive agreement to become GE Aviation’s third-party service provider for ClearCore engine wash systems for commercial and military engines in the U.S. GE Aviation will provide its mobile ClearCore engine wash units to Asig in support of Asig’s service provider agreements with various U.S. airports. The launch of the service will focus on airports in California and Florida then expand to airports in other major U.S. cities.

GE Aviation is to expand its manufacturing and R&D capacity in the U.S. with three new facilities to open by 2013, the company announced Tuesday. It expects its production rates to grow from 3,000 commercial and military engine deliveries in 2011 to 3,400 deliveries in 2012 and 3,800 deliveries in 2013, requiring $580 million in plant, equipment and tooling during the 2011-2012 time frame across its network of 55 U.S. operations.

One program that GE Aviation expects will migrate from its commercial powerplant side to its business aircraft engine division is its myEngines offering. A series of digital smartphone applications aimed at helping operators better manage their engine fleets and improve productivity, the program was started in 2010 for commercial customers. Its engine monitoring function can send alerts from aircraft in flight, notifying maintenance departments of potential problems.

GE Aviation has broken ground on a jet-engine components factory in Auburn, Ala. The 300,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant will produce precision, super-alloy machined parts for GE jet engines that will power future commercial and military aircraft and will support the fleet of GE engines already in service.

A $50 million aircraft engine research and technology center–a joint project between GE Canada and StandardAero–is being built in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on property leased from the Winnipeg Airports Authority. The project is expected to employ 10 people initially, with the potential to grow to 50 employees within five years.
