While most FBO chains go to great lengths to emphasize their branding and the extent of their network, one marches to the beat of its own drum. Denver-based Ross Aviation has quietly assembled a portfolio of 14 locations, but not a single one has the name Ross in its title.

The volume of general aviation arrivals for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver was less than predicted, according to Denver-area FBOs serving the turbine-powered fleet. As a result, the Special Traffic Management Plan (STMP) that Denver Tracon prepared for the event had not gone into effect by the start of the convention.
Ross Aviation and Centre Partners have announced their entry into the FBO market with the acquisition of Denver Air at Jefferson County Airport in Broomfield, Colo.
Stevens Aviation has acquired a leasehold on an existing 25,000-sq-ft hangar at Jefferson County Airport (BJC, aka Jeffco) outside Denver. The maintenance operation, which previously was limited to its 10,000-sq-ft shop, is in the process of hiring 10 more mechanics to expand its maintenance role at Jeffco.
Following the name change of the former Jefferson County Airport in Broomfield, Colo., to Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport last October, the tower’s appellation was modified to “Metro Tower.” Pilots were asked to stop using the old “Jeffco Tower” moniker as of March 15.
An automated weather observation system (AWOS) is now in service at Jeffco Airport, Denver. When the control tower closes at 10 p.m. local time, the ATIS frequency (126.25) becomes the AWOS frequency. At 6 a.m. local time when the control tower opens, the frequency reverts to ATIS. AWOS information is available by phone 24/7 at (720) 887-8067.
With three major storms in three weeks (and winter far from over), the Denver area has not only had its share of snow this season but seems also to be hogging all the snow that many other areas of the U.S. expect. Ski slopes in parts of the Northeast U.S. have no snow base to speak of and have rarely reached temperatures low enough to make snow.
