The Transportation Security Administration has added Los Angeles International, Manchester (N.H.) and Long Beach (Calif.) airports to its list of gateways for Part 135 and 91 flights into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. FBOs Landmark Aviation at Los Angeles, Wiggins Airways at Manchester and Signature Flight Support Long Beach are the approved facilities where flights can originate.

With the end-of-summer political conventions set for Minneapolis and Denver, the FAA transferred the general aviation security program designed for access to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area to provide top cover for the Republican gathering.
Holders of DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) clearances will be permitted to operate through the temporary flight restriction (TFR) areas surrounding the Republican National Convention in the vicinity of Minneapolis/St. Paul from September 1 to 4. Only current DASSP operators, of which there are more than 200, are eligible.
Consolidation of five terminal radar approach control facilities into the new Potomac Tracon, located in Vint Hill, Va., is now complete. The facility incorporates Tracons previously located at Washington Dulles International, Ronald Reagan Washington National, Baltimore-Washington International and Richmond International airports, as well as Andrews Air Force Base.
Tax-cut legislation proposed by President Bush was passed by Congress at the end of May and was subsequently signed into law by the President. The bill gave the Administration about half of what was desired–$350 billion in cuts versus $726 billion. Whether the legislation will give a boost to the economy remains to be seen.

Late last month the FAA issued several Notams eliminating enhanced Class B airspace and reducing the dimension of the temporary flight restriction areas in Washington, New York and Boston. The Notams also restore Part 91 access to New York’s JFK and La Guardia Airports.
