Dallas Aeronautical Services will produce composite materials and components for business aircraft in a new facility in São José dos Campos, Brazil, starting in the first half of 2014. The U.S. company announced the new venture here at the LABACE show yesterday. According to DAS director for Brazil Paul Dominonni, the operation will be launched with an initial investment of $500,000, occupying a 70,000 sq ft site in the Univap Technological Park. The projects is being supported by both state and city authorities.

Embraer recently delivered its 400th Phenom-series twinjet since the debut of the Phenom 100 in 2008. The delivery of the milestone Phenom 300 to a German firm took place at the airframer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. “Delivery of the Phenom 300 to The Hansgrohe Group means we will have nearly 60 Phenoms in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, further [expanding] our presence in these important markets,” said Colin Stevens, Embraer Executive Jets vice president of sales for EMEA.

The new Embraer high school, Colégio Embraer Casimiro Montenegro Filho, in the town of Botucatu, is scheduled to open next month with its first class of 200 students. The current school in São Jose dos Campos has been in operation since 2001.

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has a corporate culture that emphasizes giving back, and some 1,600 graduates of its Colégio Embraer Juarez Wanderley, in São Jose dos Campos, are evidence that the industry–and the company–benefit from the effort. With that in mind, the company is opening its second school, in Botucatu.

Embraer has broken ground on a new, 67,000-sq-ft Embraer Engineering and Technology Center USA on its Melbourne International Airport campus. It is slated to open in mid-2014, and the company expects to invest $26 million in the project over the next five years.

Embraer’s composites factory in Évora, Portugal, has completed its first shipset–a mostly composite empennage for the Legacy 500 midsize twinjet. The component has been shipped to the company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil, Embraer announced today.

Embraer Executive Jets (Stand 7041) is gradually moving its “center of gravity” from São Jose dos Campos, Brazil, to Melbourne, Florida, where it is building a new research and development center to join its existing facilities at Melbourne International Airport.

Embraer will establish an Engineering and Technology Center in its aeronautical cluster in Melbourne, Fla., to conduct R&D activities for both product and technology development. Initially it will focus on executive jet interiors and will include a materials and interiors laboratory. Embraer plans to partner with educational institutions to develop programs of mutual benefit. It is the second research and development center established outside its headquarters complex at São José dos Campos, Brazil.
