The FAA reauthorization bill is at odds with the European Union-U.S. Aviation Safety Agreement signed in March 2008, according to John Brutton, the EU’s U.S. ambassador in Washington. While the FAA’s proposal to inspect MRO companies outside the U.S. twice a year doesn’t sit well with the EU, Brutton also identified as sticking points additional proposed regulations pertaining to training European pilots in the U.S., investment in U.S.
Fuel provider Air BP has released dates for its nationwide two-day safety and quality-control seminar series. Airport personnel, pilots, FBOs and flight department employees are invited to learn about current safety regulations with trainers Walter Chartrand and Dave Ware.

Cincinnati-based specialized aviation services company ARG/US on Thursday released an on-site safety audit report focusing on commonly seen deficiencies in safety management systems (SMS) and emergency response planning (ERP). The report is based on 116 audits of Part 91 and 135 operators conducted by ARG/US between Jan. 1, 2007, and Feb. 28, 2009.
Penny-pinching by airlines is raising the anxiety among their employees over a perceived erosion of safety standards, according to a new survey by UK-based aviation consultancy Ascend. The second annual survey gathered input from around 200 aviation industry professionals from 41 countries, who gave their views anonymously.
While the U.S. Senate has yet to introduce its version of an FAA reauthorization bill, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2009 (H.R. 915).
In a survey of members who own or operate aircraft hangars, the National Air Transportation Association asked how new National Fire Protection Association 409 foam fire-suppression requirements would affect their businesses. According to NATA, “Forty-four percent of respondents claim that they have cancelled plans to build a hangar or have reduced hangar size because of the cost of compliance with NFPA 409.
Continuing a shuffle of executive positions in the agency’s aviation safety organization, which began with the retirement of Nick Sabatini and others, acting FAA Administrator Lynne Osmus officially named Peggy Gilligan associate administrator for aviation safety, succeeding Sabatini.
The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) has sharply criticized the interference of prosecutors in ongoing accident investigations in Italy and France, warning that such interference hampers efforts to improve aviation safety and prevent similar accidents in the future.
