Texarkana, Texas-based Truman Arnold Companies has purchased controlling interest in Keystone Aviation of Utah. As a result of the deal, the company’s Tac Air chain gained the lone FBOs at Salt Lake City International (SLC) and Provo Municipal (PVU) Airports, bringing its total to 14 locations nationwide. Keystone’s other service subsidiaries, such as aircraft charter and management, sales and maintenance, will now operate under the new Keystone Aviation brand led by industry veteran Bill Haberstock.

Million Air Salt Lake City at Salt Lake City International has announced it will break ground this month on three new hangar facilities totaling 90,000 sq ft. This will double the available hangar space. Completion is expected in January. Renovations to the lobby, including new kitchen and catering facilities, a new pilot lounge and new restrooms, are to begin this month and will be completed in October.

Following a deal that was more than two years in the making, Salt Lake jetCenter (SLJC) has acquired the former Hudson General assets leasehold and facilities at Salt Lake (Utah) International Airport (SLC). Having changed its named identity from Hudson General to GlobeGround, the company retains its airline fueling concession and will lease space from SLJC.

Agusta A109K2, Salt Lake City, Utah, Jan. 10, 2003–Life Flight 6 was destroyed, its instrument-rated commercial pilot and flight paramedic killed and a flight nurse seriously injured when the helicopter crashed at approximately 8:50 p.m. MST while attempting to maneuver in dense fog near Salt Lake City. N601RX was owned and operated by IHC (Intermountain Health Care) Health Services of Salt Lake City.

Operators intending to enter any of the nine designated temporary flight restriction (TFR) areas in effect during the Olympic Winter Games around Salt Lake City Valley and Northern Utah in February must have advance permission. The Utah Olympic Public Safety Command (UOPSC) is now accepting permission request applications, which must be returned to the UOPSC no later than December 3. The games are scheduled to be held from February 2 to 24.

Million Air Salt Lake City held a grand opening in mid-October of its newly remodeled FBO, which includes an 8,000-sq-ft addition featuring a spacious lobby with vaulted ceilings and plenty of natural lighting. The pilots’ lounge has been expanded, and there are new private sleep rooms and showers.
