San Diego County, which has jurisdiction over the McClellan-Palomar Airport (CRQ), is currently updating its FAR Part 150 noise compatibility plan for the airport. Part of the process involves evaluating existing operating procedures, with an eye toward reducing noise in the surrounding area.

In the first fatal U.S. business jet accident of the year, a Cessna Citation 560 en route from Hailey, Idaho, to Carlsbad, Calif., crashed during a landing attempt at 6:40 a.m. local time January 24 at McClellan-Palomar Airport in San Diego County, killing the two pilots and two passengers. The aircraft, registered to Goship Air LLC in Ketchum, Idaho, might have been exceeding 200 knots on final approach.

Early last month the San Diego Regional Airport Authority board voted seven to two to put to a county-wide vote this November whether to obtain land for a new civil airport at MCAS Miramar. The Strategic Planning Commission looked over many possible sites and finally chose a 3,000-acre tract at Miramar as the best option for serving San Diego’s air-transportation needs.

After a competitive tender, San Diego County has approved a sheriff’s department request to buy a new Bell 407. The $1.9 million cost will be funded by an urban initiative grant and state homeland security equipment funds.
