Brunswick, Maine-based Tempus Jets is offering a Fans 1/A and ADS-B out solution for the Bombardier Global Express. The package is priced at $455,000, depending on the existing configuration of the jet, and includes engineering, installation, certification, equipment and return to service. The upgrade uses ICG’s ICS-220A Iridium satcom if the existing satcom doesn’t meet interface and Fans and ADS-B requirements.

ViaSat is extending the availability of its cabin and cockpit connectivity solutions for business aircraft through new partnerships with other communications systems providers. Here at the EBACE show this week, the California-based company is announcing the integration of its VMT-1500 satellite connectivity system and Yonder Internet service with ICG’s new cabin router and NxtLink series transceivers to connect aircraft via the Iridium satellite network.
AirSatOne has added features for users of its satellite communications services, including data compression to make more efficient use of available bandwidth and the ability to filter data use by passengers to avoid high airtime charges. The new Flightstream SA services are free to any AirSatOne customer, according to Jo Kremsreiter, president of AirSatOne, and do not require that AirSatOne’s Flightstream AOC router be installed.
Associated Air Center (AAC) has received STC approval for Boeing 737 (-300 through -900ER) Wi-Fi solutions for the Satcom Direct Router (SDR). The dual-band unit can manage multiple systems such as Swift64, SwiftBroadband, Ku band, Ka band and X band both airborne and on the ground. The SDR also has a 3G cellular service feature for use on the ground. The system can be integrated with existing platforms and systems manufactured by Cobham, Thrane & Thrane, Honeywell and Rockwell Collins.
The next major step in satellite communication services will be the deployment of Inmarsat’s new Ka-band GX (Global Xpress) satellite constellation. Satellite service provider Satcom Direct (Booth P212) has ordered 10 shipsets of the new satcom system for its business aviation clients. The three Inmarsat-5 satellites are scheduled to be in orbit by the end of this year, and GX Aviation services should start in the first half of 2015.
Cobham Satcom (Booth M87) recently appointed Jianmin Cui to the new role of regional sales director for China with its aeronautical sales team. The Denmark-based satellite communications specialist sees strong prospects for growth in China’s general aviation market; the Shanghai-based sales executive will also focus on the air transport sector. The group’s main product is the Aviator SwiftBroadband series of communications systems.
The first Inmarsat-5 Ka-band Global Xpress satellite was launched successfully on December 8. The satellite was expected to reach its final position in a geo-synchronous elliptical orbit by the end of last month. This is the first of three satellites that will create the seamless GX Aviation high-speed satcom network, with performance up to 50 Mbps that can deliver streaming video. GX Aviation mobile broadband service is slated to begin next year, after two other satellites are sent aloft this year. Each satellite weighs more than six metric tons and can provide 89 Ka-band beams.
Satellite communications solution provider Satcom Direct (Booth No. N4107) announced Monday that its avionics-grade Satcom Direct Router (SDR) will have 3G cellular data connectivity built in, enabling pilots to update onboard systems on the ground as well as allowing other new functions.
