Jeppesen announced it has been selected to provide worldwide weather information and forecasts for use by subscribers of the Merlin airborne weather system in development by Dulles, Va.-based Satellink Technologies. Scheduled for availability this spring, Merlin will provide real-time weather to aircraft in flight, including high-resolution color weather charts and Notams supplied by Jeppesen.
RAYTHEON KING AIR C90, MUNSON, FLA., JUNE 25, 1999–According to the NTSB, poor judgment killed a pilot and his passenger when their aircraft came apart in flight during a midmorning journey up the west coast of Florida.
Mitsubishi MU-2B-40, Bunnell, Fla., Aug. 25, 2006–The NTSB determined that the crash of the MU-2 resulted from an inadvertent encounter with thunderstorms. The commercial pilot, cruising at FL280, had received a sigmet about convective activity. His onboard weather radar was working, and Jacksonville Center was equipped with Nexrad-derived weather displays, which indicated weak to moderate echoes above FL240.
Deliveries of the new WSI InFlight AV-300 series datalink weather systems began earlier this month, following their introduction and demonstrations at EAA AirVenture 2007 in July.

An Alerts Manager feature allows the user to send alerts automatically to any Blackberry, mobile phone or e-mail inbox in the world. It is triggered by user-selected specific events such as takeoff, diversion and landing.
