Sandel last month said it has started shipping an upgraded version of its SN3500 EHSI (electronic horizontal situation indicator) that features LED (light-emitting diode) backlighting similar to the technology introduced last year in its larger displays. Providing a brighter and sharper display image, the technology replaces Sandel’s previous backlighting technique with a long-life glass panel rated at 10,000 hours MTBF.

B/E Aerospace received a PMA for its LED wash lighting for the Gulfstream IV. Approval for the new system follows previously approved B/E passenger-adjustable LED reading lights for the GIV. The company is working on certification for wash lighting on other jets, including the Citation 550. B/E has also begun marketing two other new LED products.

Heads Up Technologies of Carrollton, Texas, is providing upwash, downwash, aisle and toe-kick LED lighting as standard equipment in Cessna’s Citation X, XLS and Excel production aircraft. Work lights and accent lights in the galley make use of the same technology. The LED system was on display last year in the Citation XLS and Citation X aircraft on static display at the NBAA Convention.

Securaplane Technologies and Luminator have signed an agreement to offer a wireless cabin LED lighting system for use in business aircraft and airliners.

The companies expect to capitalize on the growing popularity of the so-called “mood lighting” that allows a change in cabin ambiance through a wireless controller for the shifting of colors and lighting intensity.

It sheds a new light on things. That’s what Emteq says of its new ELW61 “very low profile” LED (light-emitting diode) cabin wash lighting technology. The board is .18 inches thick (.63 inches, including diodes) and 1.13 inches wide. According to the New Berlin, Wis. company, it is ideal for mounting in tight spaces, such as lens-covered headliner lighting. The ELW61 is step-dimmable, with a variable dimming option.

Duncan Aviation recently delivered its 10th Falcon 50 with the company’s Duncan Design shell kit. It features a two-inch increase in seated headroom, new LED (light-emitting diode) upwash/downwash cabin lighting and new emergency oxygen boxes, among other improvements.
