Cessna Aircraft said today at the Singapore Airshow that it expects “accelerating demand” for light and midsize business jets across the Asia-Pacific region in the next decade. Speaking at the show, vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia (EMAA) Trevor Esling said, “The Asia-Pacific region already accounts for 10 percent of Cessna’s business jet sales, and we anticipate demand increasing further in the medium to long term.

The Singapore Airshow will retain its world top-three ranking with a 2012 event that will be bigger than any of its predecessors, according to show organizers Experia Events. Covered exhibit space for this year’s show total 50,000 sq m–5 percent bigger than in 2010. Outdoor space spanning 100,000 sq m has been filled with more than 65 aircraft–up from around 50 two years ago.

Piper Aircraft (Booth V63) head of global sales and business development Drew McEwen is leading the Vero Beach, Florida-based company’s delegation here at the Singapore Airshow. The Brunei government-owned aircraft manufacturer also comes to the Singapore show fresh under new management–until a few months ago Imprimis was directing the company; Brunei, which bought Piper in 2009, now holds the full reins.

This month’s Singapore Airshow (February 14 to 19) is on track to surpass the previous 2010 event, with more than 900 exhibitors booked to participate from some 50 countries. What many observers will be keen to gauge is the extent to which the Asia-Pacific’s air transport and defense markets are holding up in the face of continued Western decline.

According to Angelica Lim, the Singapore show’s general aerospace and defense group manger, the 2012 event expects 259 delegations from more than 80 countries, more than 900 exhibitors and in excess of 53,000 paid visitors.
