Last February’s Singapore Airshow defied the economic downturn to draw 62 of the world’s top 100 aerospace companies. The next event in 2012 has already sold 70 percent of its enlarged exhibit space and if you want to join those already booked you have until this Friday here at the Farnborough show (Chalet 31) to book space at special rates.

Hawker Beechcraft has appointed Hawker Pacific Singapore the first authorized service center in Southeast Asia for the Hawker 4000. With this addition, the Hawker Pacific Singapore Service Center is now accredited to support the entire Hawker Beechcraft product lineup.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have signed a joint agreement to join the Asia and Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions (Aspire). To mark the occasion they have conducted “the world’s first multi-sector green flight” on an SIA’s flight SQ11 from Los Angeles to Singapore via Tokyo, with the Boeing 747-400 arriving in Singapore in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The 2010 Singapore Airshow is set to be a sell-out by the time it opens its doors for this year’s February 2 to 7 event. As of press time, just over 95 percent of the 430,000 sq ft of exhibition space had been sold, with some room still available for small companies.

Organizers of next year’s Singapore Airshow are here in Paris (Chalet D226) pressing for a sell out for the Feb. 2-7, 2010 event. So far, 90 percent of its exhibit space has been sold. They anticipate more than 700 exhibitors will attend, including 60 of the world’s top 100 aerospace firms.

The 2010 Singapore Airshow (Hall 2 Stand B9) has taken reservations for 80 percent of its available space just five months after this year’s inaugural event. Managing director Jimmy Lau is here at Farnborough aiming to sign firm contracts for 30 percent of that area and had already received 15 percent after Farnborough’s opening day. “We have to keep the momentum going,” Lau said yesterday.
