Jeppesen released an enhanced version of its FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag solution for the iPad. Among the iOS 7-compliant features are new departure and arrival runway depiction (SID and Star) rendering on the en route map to raise pilot situational awareness; a new “flight info drawer” to create, load, view and save the active flight data; user-defined waypoints; and comments to identify important points along the en route map.
FltPlan’s free Go mobile device app is now available for Android devices. The app is designed to work with a user’s existing free FltPlan account, but the app delivers most of the website’s functionality and additional features such as geo-referenced approach and taxi charts and a moving map.
Ingenio Aerospace of Montreal and Texas-based DAC International are introducing at EBACE 2014 a number of Ingenio’s “Smart Solutions” products. The Ingenio devices are designed to help aircraft manufacturers and interior refurbishment and completion centers deal with the rapid pace of smart-device technological change.
The suite of products–Smart Cabin Arm, Smart Cockpit Arm and Smartphone Holder–accommodates different formats and supports tablets, electronic flight bags, smartphones and MP3 players.
AIN recently launched its updated news app, which is now available for all Android and Apple iOS smartphones and tablets. The app, previously available only for the iPhone, provides a real-time feed of all aviation news published online by AIN. It also includes exhibitor lists, exhibit hall/static display maps and other information at the airshows and business aviation events where AIN publishes daily print issues.
A major release of iFlightPlanner’s iPad app—Version 2.0–adds many new features to the flight planning and moving-map app, including virtual GPS capability to display simulated own-ship position on FSX and X-Plane flight simulators and an integrated flight recorder. The iFlightPlanner app synchronizes with the company’s flight-planning website, including the mobile version, so flight plans created on the website can easily be synchronized with the user’s iPad.
Garmin’s Virb Elite action camera now integrates with the Garmin Pilot iPad/iPhone app, which can not only control the camera but also displays a live view of the video being recorded by the camera. The integration with Garmin Pilot (version 6.0 or later) is available only with the Virb Elite, not with the regular Virb.
Jet Support Services (JSSI, Booth No. 1425), which provides hourly cost maintenance programs for a variety of aircraft types, has begun a new phase of improvements to its customer portal, MyJSSI. According to Joy Nebel, vice president of client services for JSSI, “Our phase two redesign incorporates feedback we’ve received from our customers and should make it easier for them to report flight hours and manage their JSSI contracts.”
Jet Support Services, which provides hourly cost aircraft maintenance programs, has begun a new phase of improvements to its customer portal, MyJSSI. Enhancements include simplified navigation, a cleaner submit flight hours page, better contacts integration and a new minimum flight hours calculator. JSSI customers can access MyJSSI from their computers, or through an app on their tablets and smartphones.
Garmin has increased the integration and capabilities of its high-definition action camera, VIRB, with Garmin Pilot. When VIRB is used in conjunction with the new Garmin Pilot v6.0 for iOS devices, users will be able to view live video simultaneously in Garmin Pilot. In addition, users can remotely control VIRB with the iOS app, allowing them to start and stop video recording and take still photos. This feature will be available in split-screen mode, so pilots can simultaneously view their moving-map display in Garmin Pilot while also controlling VIRB.
The free weight-and-balance program developed by FltPlan is available for more than 400 makes and model of aircraft and can be used either on the FltPlan website or on its iPad and Android apps. The company added 165 new makes and models to the program since March. Flight departments can share weight-and-balance profiles so all users are working with the same parameters. The iPad and Android app versions can be used offline, too. Users can also email the final results to maintain a record of the weight-and-balance calculations.
