Protectionists have sounded the familiar alarms over GE’s joint venture with China’s Avic, formalized during January’s state visit to Washington by Chinese president Hu Jintao. The venture, an equal partnership between GE Aviation and Avic, will involve the development and marketing of integrated, open-architecture aviation electronic systems to the global commercial aerospace industry for new aircraft programs, according to GE.
Former Powerjet chairman and CEO Jean-Paul Ebanga has assumed the role of president and chief executive officer of CFM International, the GE-Snecma joint venture announced today. Ebanga replaces Eric Bachelet, who had served as CFM president and CEO since September 2005. Bachelet has accepted the position of Safran executive vice president of research and technology.
Although few details are available about Dassault’s super-midsize SMS Falcon, the company is aiming for certification in 2016, according to Olivier Villa, senior vice president for civil aircraft. When the twin-engine SMS was launched in January 2008 it was slated to be powered by the Rolls-Royce RB282.
