After 20 months, North Olmsted, Ohio-based CommutAir and its 135 pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, have asked for a federal mediator to help them reach terms on their first contract. The sides have worked on a deal since February 2009, but they remain far apart on economic issues, including pay rates, according to ALPA.

Plattsburgh, N.Y.-based CommutAir has notified its employees that it will return 12 of its remaining 26 leased Beech 1900D turboprops to Raytheon Aircraft and furlough more than 150 personnel as part of a plan to reduce operations by some 45 percent.
CommutAir’s flight operations department accelerated preparations last month for a major expansion scheduled to start March 16 in Cleveland, where the Plattsburg, N.Y.-based Continental Connection affiliate plans to nearly double its capacity by year-end with 12 new destinations.
Plattsburgh, N.Y.-based Continental Connection affiliate CommutAir signed a deal with Horizon Air last month to lease sixteen 37-seat Bombardier Q200s. The contract, which includes maintenance support and spare parts, calls for deliveries to start in January, at which time CommutAir plans to start replacing Beech 1900Ds at Continental’s Cleveland hub.
