Business aviation is set to make a strong showing next week at the Dubai Airshow, with the sector expected to account for about one-third of the 150 aircraft on static display and approximately 220 of the more than 1,000 exhibiting companies. In addition to the airframers, business aviation service providers such as Jet Aviation, ExecuJet Aviation, Royal Jet and Jetex are exhibiting at the event, which opens on Sunday.

Switzerland-based Vertis Aviation will open a Dubai branch of its aviation charter business in January in the Free Zone at Dubai World Central/Al Maktoum International Airport. Vertis aims to capitalize on the development of business aviation at the airport and build a broader customer network within the countries that form the Gulf Cooperation Council. The office will be run by Catherine Buchanan, who will be responsible for managing the development of the charter brokerage and strengthening the Vertis brand in the region.
At the sixth Middle East Business Aviation meeting in Dubai, Dec. 8-10, 2014, prepare for some changes. The meeting is moving to a new home at Dubai World Central at Al Maktoum International Airport, located near Jebel Ali, Dubai, which is the same location as next month’s Dubai Airshow (November 17-19).
CAE’s Gulfstream G450/G550 flight simulator in Shanghai, China, recently received Level D certification by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). The G450/G550 training programs are set to start soon at the Shanghai Eastern Flight Training Centre (SEFTC), in the Shanghai Pudong Waigaoqiao free trade zone. Both programs will feature standard CAE courseware in Mandarin, as well as English. The Shanghai facility is CAE’s 10th business aviation training location worldwide.
In a prelude to the business aviation community’s anticipated migration to Dubai’s new Al Maktoum International Airport (Dubai World Central, DWC), the 2012 Middle East Business Aviation show was staged there for the first time last month (December 11-13).
The scheduled-airline vacuum at Dubai World Central’s new Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) has created an opportunity for business aviation operators hard pressed to obtain adequate slots at Dubai International Airport (DXB), according to Khalifa Al Zaffin, executive chairman of government-owned Dubai Aviation City Corp., whose main responsibility is construction at Dubai Aviation City.
Rockwell Collins and China Eastern Airlines extended their joint venture, Collins Aviation Maintenance Services Shanghai Limited (CAMSSL), during a ceremonial signing at the Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai, today. “CAMSSL is committed to be the leading maintenance service provider for Rockwell Collins products in the Chinese aviation market,” said Feng Liang, chief engineer for China Eastern Airlines said.
The inauguration in June of Dubai World Central's Al Maktoum International Airport marked the completion of the project's Phase 1 and another significant milestone in Dubai's pursuit of air transport preeminence.
Cargo traffic began operations at Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport in late June, marking the opening of Dubai’s second airport. Operations
at the airport, which planners say will eventually become the world’s largest,
will initially be confined to cargo hauling.
Passenger traffic, for which the airport has an initial capacity of five million people a year, will begin next March.
Dubai-based Palm Aviation is here at the EBACE show (Booth No. 1069) to discuss plans for its new FBO, the first to be built at the new Al Maktoum International Airport. The airport is part of the vast Dubai World Central (DWC) complex currently under construction at Jebel Ali, about 30 miles from the city center.
