Aero Charter Jet Center has broken ground on a $4 million expansion program at its FBO facility at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Mo. The improvements, which will more than double the current capacity, include a new 30,000-sq-ft hangar, 4,200 sq ft of shop space and more than 100,000 sq ft of ramp area. The 32-year-old aviation services provider outgrew its current space built in 1998.

When World War I ended in 1918 it had cost some nine million lives, and about 15,000 of those lost were airmen. It had played its part in a brutal conflict, and was no longer simply the recreational adventure it had been before the outbreak of hostilities in 1914.
