Cessna received certification for its Citation Sovereign from both the European Aviation Safety Agency and the JAA, enabling the twinjet to be certified and registered in 25 nations adhering to EASA regulations and the 10 countries still following JAA procedures. Cessna also claimed the Sovereign received the first-ever EASA type certification data sheet for noise. The Sovereign received FAA certification in June last year.
Le Castellet International Airport in the south of France was set to activate distance- measuring equipment on October 27. The new landing aid will make it much easier for pilots to shoot IFR approaches to the airfield’s 5,741-foot runway without first having to perform a daytime checkride.

Jet Aviation Chicago has teamed with Duncan Aviation and Atlantic Aviation to expand maintenance services at Chicago Midway Airport. The company is operating out of Atlantic Aviation’s Midway facility from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Services offered include line maintenance, light inspections, installations and AOG service. Staff is on-call 24 hours a day to handle unscheduled maintenance and AOG needs.
Galaxy Aviation recently added to its chain of Florida FBOs with the purchase of the former Aero Sport facility at St. Augustine-St. Johns County Airport. The company has applied to airport authorities to construct additional hangars and enhancements to the executive terminal at St. Augustine. Galaxy also has FBOs in West Palm Beach, Orlando, Stuart and Boca Raton.
Modifications to the St. Louis Class-B airspace go into effect on April 13. The changes are intended to ensure that departure and arrival procedures for new Runway 11/29 are contained in Class B airspace. Separately, the FAA has scheduled public meetings on April 27 in Mesa, Ariz., and May 2 in Phoenix on proposed revisions to the Class-B airspace in Phoenix.
Swiss-based charter and management provider PrivatAir has created a team dedicated exclusively to marketing its charter services for financial roadshows, such as initial public offerings, typically requiring flights to multiple destinations in a short time. Swiss-based competitor Jet Aviation established a dedicated financial roadshow team last summer.
Special slot procedures will be in place at about 20 German airports during the World Cup soccer tournament, which runs from June 9 to July 9. The games are being hosted in Berlin, Hamburg, Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund, Leipzig, Cologne, Stuttgart, Munich, Nuremberg, Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern and are expected to draw a significant number of corporate aircraft to airports in these cities, as well as to nearby alternate airports.
