Signature Flight Support has signed a deal with Imperial Oil of Canada that could see the service provider chain add as many as 38 FBOs to its network. The agreement offers all Canadian Esso-branded FBOs the option to become members of the Signature network or to join the service provider’s Signature Select affiliate program. As part of the agreement, Imperial Oil will continue to be the fuel provider and the locations will continue to carry their Esso fuel branding, in addition to any possible Signature badges.

In a string of promotions announced yesterday at Bombardier but not effective until January 1, Eric Martel will be president of Bombardier Business Aircraft, succeeding Steve Ridolfi, who will be senior vice president of strategy and mergers and acquisitions at Bombardier Inc. Meanwhile, Michel Ouellette will take over Martel’s current position–president of Bombardier customer services and specialized and amphibious aircraft–also at the turn of the new year.

Smartphone maker BlackBerry (née RIM) plans to close its corporate flight department as part of a comprehensive restructuring plan aimed at stemming losses that are set to total as much as $995 million during its second fiscal quarter, which ended last month. New chief executive Thorsten Heins has decided to sell a Bombardier Global Express that the Waterloo, Ontario-based company bought pre-owned as recently as July for an undisclosed price.

Bombardier announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of its fiscal year and for the year ending Jan. 31, 2010.

Total revenues for both commercial and business aircraft totaled $9.4 billion, down slightly from $10 billion in the previous fiscal year, and the total backlog for both sectors was $16.7 billion, compared with $23.5 billion as of Jan. 31, 2009.

Bombardier has named Guy Hachey president and COO of its aerospace division, following Pierre Beaudoin’s promotion to president and COO of Bombardier Inc. Hachey brings more than 30 years of experience in the industrial manufacturing sector to the Montreal-based airframer, first with GM and most recently with Delphi.

The first Bombardier Challenger 890 corporate shuttle entered service in late February with Calgary-based Suncor Energy, a major North American developer of oil sands. The CRJ900 regional jet derivative, which joins Suncor’s Challenger 850 corporate shuttle, will be used to transport workers from the company’s Calgary headquarters to its oil sands in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Corporate analysts are carefully monitoring the possible implications of any new or modified Bombardier business and financial strategies under new CEO Paul Tellier, who took over from Robert Brown in mid-January. He assumed office last month just as Moody’s Investors Service downgraded long-term debt ratings of Bombardier Inc., Bombardier Capital (BC) and Bombardier Capital Funding.

Some 10 months after Bombardier launched the 50-passenger Challenger 850 corporate shuttle, the first aircraft has entered service with Alberta, Canada-based Suncor Energy, parent company of Sunoco service stations. Suncor Energy will operate shuttle service for employees and contractors six days a week between its Calgary headquarters and Fort McMurray in northern Alberta.
