Canadian airline WestJet has placed an order for 14 additional Boeing 737-700NGs, the manufacturer and airline each announced today. The Calgary-based, low-fare airline also announced plans to reschedule delivery of 16 of the single-aisle airplanes already on order, to “provide for a smoother aircraft delivery schedule and a more flexible fleet plan.” WestJet flies an all-Boeing fleet of 81 Next-Generation 737s.

CAE on Wednesday announced that its president and CEO, Robert Brown, will retire on September 30. CAE’s board of directors has appointed Marc Parent, CAE’s executive vice president and COO, as Brown’s successor. Brown has agreed to serve as an advisor until the end of December.

CAE has sold two full-flight simulators to Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Co., the investment arm of the Kingdom of Bahrain and owner of national carrier Gulf Air. The 7000 Series A330/A340 convertible FFS and 5000 Series A320 FFS, both with the Tropos-6000 visual system, will support the training of Gulf Air pilots. CAE will also provide a suite of support services over the next 10 years.

CAE has won a series of contracts from prime contractor Lockheed Martin and undisclosed customers to design and build four C-130 simulators and several training devices for military customers around the world.

CAE (Booth No. 1525) has expanded its portfolio of Web-based pilot and technical training courses for business aviation customers. The company is providing online courses and solutions customized for business aviation on the level of the same practices and solutions used in commercial aviation.

Two joint ventures of simulator manufacturer CAE (Stand No. 530) made key announcements in the run-up to this week’s MEBA show. First, initial customers for Embraer’s Phenom 100 very light jet have passed the FAA practical test at the Embraer CAE Training Services (ECTS) facility at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. Second, Emirates-CAE Flight Training (ECFT) of Dubai announced two offshore helicopter contracts.

Montreal-based CAE plans to add a Global Express full-flight simulator to its training facility in Dallas next year. In addition, the company is adding a Bombardier CRJ200 level-D simulator to its Madrid training facility, doubling its CRJ platform capacity in the region. The new CRJ simulator will complement the currently installed CRJ200/900 level-D simulator in Madrid and is scheduled to enter into service early next year.

Bombardier (Booth No. 4397) reported a year-over-year revenue increase of 22 percent, to $4.9 billion, in its second fiscal quarter ending July 31, thanks in large part to the strength of its aerospace division. The company’s aviation businesses contributed $2.5 billion of these revenues in the quarter, up from $2.2 billion in the same period last year.
