Montreal-based CAE plans to add a Global Express full-flight simulator to its training facility in Dallas next year. In addition, the company is adding a Bombardier CRJ200 level-D simulator to its Madrid training facility, doubling its CRJ platform capacity in the region. The new CRJ simulator will complement the currently installed CRJ200/900 level-D simulator in Madrid and is scheduled to enter into service early next year.

Bombardier (Booth No. 4397) reported a year-over-year revenue increase of 22 percent, to $4.9 billion, in its second fiscal quarter ending July 31, thanks in large part to the strength of its aerospace division. The company’s aviation businesses contributed $2.5 billion of these revenues in the quarter, up from $2.2 billion in the same period last year.

Simulation and training specialist CAE is about to embark on a full-scale beta test of the new multi-crew pilot’s license (MPL) curriculum it developed to complement existing programs in its Global Academy.
Late last month CAE was expected to acquire SimuFlite Training International. General Electric, which bought SimuFlite from Southern Air Transport in 1998, agreed to sell the company to Toronto-based CAE for $247 million.
For the first time Europe has its own simulator capacity for the Global Express, now that CAE and Bombardier have begun offering pilot and technical training on the big business jets at CAE’s Burgess Hill facility in the UK. The program marks the first operational milestone of the 20-year Authorized Training Provider agreement signed by CAE and Bombardier last June.

As part of a plan to develop Toronto City Center Airport into a viable commercial hub, the Toronto Port Authority (TPA) has entered negotiations with a local holding company to base a new regional airline at the island airport. Known as Regional Airlines Holding Co. (Regco), the new airline plans to start operations within a year, by which time it plans to inaugurate service to Ottawa, Chicago and New York.
CAE last month inaugurated its aviation training center near Denver International Airport. The new facility, which specializes in the training of regional airline crews, is starting with three simulators: an Airbus A320 and two Bombardier CRJ200/700 devices. Frontier Airlines and Air Wisconsin are the launch customers. A third Bombardier CRJ200/700 simulator will be added next year.
Bombardier is trying to sell Belfast City Airport in Northern Ireland. Less than two miles from the center of Belfast, the downtown airport has attracted growing volumes of regional airline and corporate traffic in recent years. Bombardier acquired the airport when it bought Short Brothers in 1989 along with its airplane factory, which is located on the same site.
