Bombardier today announced substantial changes to its aerospace group leadership team, most notably naming auto industry veteran Guy Hachey Bombardier Aerospace’s new president and COO, effective May 12. A transition period will follow until June 4, when Pierre Beaudoin, Bombardier Aerospace’s current president and COO, will take over the position of president and CEO of parent company Bombardier, as previously announced last fall.

“We’re going after FlightSafety,” Nick Leontidis, CAE’s executive vice president of civil aviation training and equipment, told AIN. “They may have created the business aviation simulation market, but we believe we have a better product.” He said current customer expectations are “far behind what the commercial airline market has enjoyed for many years in terms of quality of service.”
Hawker Beechcraft named Russ Meyer III the company’s director of new product development. Meyer, son of the former Cessna chairman, was most recently program manager for Cessna’s Citation Mustang program.
The first Bombardier Challenger 890 corporate shuttle entered service in late February with Calgary-based Suncor Energy, a major North American developer of oil sands. The CRJ900 regional jet derivative, which joins Suncor’s Challenger 850 corporate shuttle, will be used to transport workers from the company’s Calgary headquarters to its oil sands in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Simulator maker CAE last month announced that Bombardier has awarded the company the simulation development contract for the CRJ900 regional jet and upgrades to four CRJ700 simulators. In addition, Calgary-based airline WestJet has agreed to purchase a Boeing 737-700 flight simulator for installation at the airline’s training facility.
CAE-Macmet announced contracts last Wednesday for four simulator systems for the Indian armed forces. Macmet Technologies, India’s leading simulator company, was purchased last year by Canada’s CAE.
Corporate analysts are carefully monitoring the possible implications of any new or modified Bombardier business and financial strategies under new CEO Paul Tellier, who took over from Robert Brown in mid-January. He assumed office last month just as Moody’s Investors Service downgraded long-term debt ratings of Bombardier Inc., Bombardier Capital (BC) and Bombardier Capital Funding.
CAE has formed a training alliance with “professional development” consultant Summit Solutions of Charlotte, N.C., to provide management, communications and leadership courses at CAE’s SimuFlite Dallas training facility. This initiative “provides a key opportunity for both pilots and aviation maintenance professionals to combine advanced technical instruction with leadership and management training,” CAE said.
Emirates-CAE Flight Training has signed a three-year contract to provide helicopter training for Indian-based offshore helicopter operator Global Vectra Helicorp. Global Vectra flight crews will undergo training on a Bell 412 full-flight simulator at ECFT’s facility in Dubai. The agreement covers recurrent and initial type training.
According to its founder, start-up completion and refurbishment center DunnAir Business Jet Completion Center will open its doors in February. Dale Dunn said the company had reached an agreement with both Bombardier and the Tucson Airport Authority for sublease of the facilities at Tucson International Airport.
