StarPort has named Roscoe Armstrong its COO. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of StarPort, including aircraft maintenance, avionics, paint, interior and FBO services. Armstrong has more than 30 years’ administrative experience with aviation services companies and has held key management positions in both government and commercial aviation sectors, including stints with USDOJ/DEA Air Wing, L-3 Communications, TXI Aviation and the FAA.

Orlando-based StarPort received an FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) for installation of Honeywell’s Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) in a Hawker 850XP. The project took three months and 450 man-hours because StarPort engineers and technicians had to install a Honeywell EGPWS before adding the RAAS, according to avionics manager John Coon.
StarPort USA, the Sanford, Fla., FBO launched in 1995, has survived a bankruptcy and a recession, and with an eye on the slowly improving economy has launched a new completion and refurbishment center.
StarPort is owned by the Cambata family of Virginia, which also owns Cambata Aviation International in India, specializing in airline ground handling. StarPort USA president Nelson Cambata flies a Beechjet.
