Eaton will supply the Learjet 85’s fuel-tank inerting system, under a contract awarded by Bombardier Aerospace. The fuel-tank inerting system enhances aircraft safety by injecting inert gas into fuel tanks to significantly reduce the potential for ignition sources. Besides supplying the system, Eaton will support Bombardier in the regulatory process to achieve FAA inerting system certification for the Learjet 85.

US Aviation in Denton, Texas, is the first FBO in the U.S. to install stainless steel-lined fuel tanks in its fuel farm. Traditional fuel storage tanks use an epoxy inner liner, and this liner “has a tendency to break down,” according to Jeff Soules, the FBO’s senior v-p and general manager. Benefits of the stainless-steel liners include no initial startup problems or chips, flaking or biological disintegration of the epoxy, he said.

Pronal, one of Europe’s major manufacturers of bladder tanks designed to store and transport liquids, has developed new elastomer materials for use in manufacturing its onboard fuel tanks for civil and military aircraft, including helicopters.
