Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) has apparently shelved its plans to produce a business jet.
Despite the display of a scale model of the Subaru light business jet concept as recently as the Farnborough Air Show in July, Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) has apparently shelved its plans to follow in the footsteps of fellow Japanese car maker Honda in producing a business jet.
Eclipse Aviation signed a contract with Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) of Japan for the manufacture of complete wing assemblies for the Eclipse 500 very light jet. As part of the long-term agreement, Eclipse also licensed its friction-stir welding process to FHI for use in the wing assemblies, as well as other potential applications within FHI’s manufacturing operations.
British racing driver Colin McRae was killed when the Eurocopter AS 355 Twin Squirrel he was flying crashed near his home in Scotland on September 15. The accident happened at 4:10 p.m. near Lanark, 27 miles south of Glasgow, and also killed McRae’s five-year-old son and two friends. According to local press reports, there was rain at the time of the crash but visibility was reasonable.
