Online charter marketplace Avinode recently enhanced its empty-leg feature to make it easier for users to combine trips to popular locations.

Out of the approximately 420,000 business jet flights in Europe last year, perhaps as many as 2,500 could have been eliminated, according to research by online charter market place and data provider Avinode (Booth 5134). While one of private aviation’s major value propositions is its broad routing network, which resulted in around 139,000 empty legs in Europe alone in 2013, the Göteborg, Sweden-based company believes that more efficient communication in the industry could reduce that number, especially between frequently linked city pairs.

HyperMach Aerospace announced a new configuration for its SonicStar supersonic business jet (SSBJ) that it claims will boost the aircraft’s top speed by about 12 percent to Mach 4.5, while increasing range by 500 nm, to 6,500 nm. At its planned high-Mach cruise speed of Mach 4.4 at FL620, the SonicStar would be able to fly from New York to Dubai in only two hours and eight minutes.

A French appeals court has overturned the manslaughter verdict against Continental Airlines resulting from the July 2000 crash of an Air France Concorde soon after takeoff from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). The initial ruling held Continental liable for the accident on the grounds that maintenance errors caused a 16-inch piece of titanium to fall from one of the U.S. airline’s DC10s during its takeoff roll just moments before the Concorde.
