Canadian avionics installation company Maxcraft Avionics has received supplemental type certificates for installation of a variety of Garmin products in the Beechcraft King Air 200 and B200. The STCs cover Garmin’s new digital GWX 70 weather radar, GTS 850 Tcas I and GTX 330 mode-S transponder as well as Bendix/King’s KR87 ADF and PS Engineering’s PMA-7000 audio system. Maxcraft, which is based in Vancouver, also holds approvals for installation of Garmin primary and multifunction displays, and the new STC’d products can be installed along with the displays.
Supplemental Type Certificate
Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU) is demonstrating night-vision goggle (NVG) technology during this year’s NBAA Convention. Attendees can experience NVGs in the demonstration trailer at the company’s booth (No. C9832).
ASU, based in Boise, Idaho, provides NVG equipment, cockpit modifications, pilot training and goggle maintenance, and holds supplemental type certificates (STCs) on multiple fixed-wing aircraft. Operators can have NVG cockpit lighting solutions installed at the company’s FAA Part 145 repair station in Boise or at the customer’s facility.
Avcon Industries, a subsidiary of Butler National announced that on the opening day of NBAA 2013 it received a supplemental type certificate (STC) for its 2015 Stage 3-noise compliant hushkits for the Learjet 20 series, covering most of the 350 Learjet 20-series still in service. The STC does not include those with the unmodified straight-wing and Dee Howard XR-wing–those will need a separate STC, which the company expects to tackle at a later date. Avcon brought its flight-test aircraft to the NBAA 2013 static display at Henderson Executive Airport.
According to Newport News, Virginia-based ICG, the FAA has issued the first supplemental type certificate (STC) for an Iridium-based avionics platform on a business jet conforming to the RTCA DO-262A data link standard. DO-262A is the standard required for design approval of data link communications systems supporting air traffic services, per FAA advisory circular AC 20-140A.
For years, it has been an accepted axiom of aviation that you never jump out of a perfectly good airplane. But thousands do it every year, and safely, albeit with parachutes. They cram themselves into aging Caravans and Otters and joyfully leap into the clear, clean air thousands of feet above the ground.
Now The Drake Group, an engineering services provider, has taken skydiving to a new heights, so to speak, by winning a supplemental type certificate (STC) for deploying parachutists and cargo under parachute from a Gulfstream G550 and its older sister the GV.
Aviation Fabricators (AvFab) recently received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for its two-place divan for the Learjet 60. The company has similar approvals for the Learjet 55, 55B, and 55C.
The two-place divan adds passenger space while giving the cabin a larger, more open look. The divan is available as either right or left side facing, and armrests, drawer and close-out panels are available options. Armrests can be added to either end of the divan.
The EASA granted an approved model list (AML) supplemental type certificate (STC) to Aspen Avionics for installation of its Evolution Flight Display in more than 700 aircraft models registered in EASA countries. These include aircraft made by more than 40 manufacturers, including many twin turboprops. Under the AML STC, owners and operators can install the Evolution PFD and MFD as well as optional features such as Evolution hazard awareness, synthetic vision and EA 100 autopilot adapter.
Brazil’s ANAC aviation authority has granted a supplemental type certificate (STC) to StandardAero for installation of the Primus Elite avionics suite developed by Honeywell (Stand 1004) for the Dassault Falcon 900C and Falcon 900EX.
The approval by Brazilian aviation authorities follows receipt of an STC from Transport Canada. Approval by the European Aviation Safety Agency was expected just prior to the opening of LABACE 2013.
L-3 Platform Integration has earned a four-year extension of its FAA organization designation authorization (ODA) and passed a biennial audit of its ODA-related process. It has also won FAA approval for modification of the composite-fuselage Boeing 787.
The FAA-granted ODA allows a center to issue certificates of airworthiness and supplemental type certificates as designees on behalf of the agency.
The FAA issued a supplemental type certificate (STC) to Avidyne covering installation of the company’s DFC90 autopilot in 25 Beechcraft Bonanza models. The STC requires interfacing with the Aspen Avionics EVD1000 Evolution Pro PFD. The DFC90 autopilot is a plug-and-play replacement of the S-Tec 55X autopilot and uses the 55X’s servos. The DFC90 can also replace S-Tec 30/50/60-2/65-series autopilots in the 25 Bonanza models covered by this STC.
