Business aircraft manufacturers are seeing Indonesia as the emerging country for business aviation in Asia. They believe that sales, albeit still relatively slow, are poised to grow, mainly due to favorable economic and geographic conditions.
A Cessna 208B Grand Caravan operated by Tropicair crashed November 25 in the Gulf province of Papua New Guinea killing three of 10 on board. The Caravan pilot was among the seven survivors. The airplane was on a domestic flight from Kikori to Gobe when it crashed into a river near an airstrip, possibly during an emergency-landing attempt.
Preliminary Report: LongRanger Crashes on Oil-rig Run
Bell 206L, Belle Chase, La., Oct. 8, 2013–Operating under Part 135, the LongRanger crashed shortly after takeoff from an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, destroying the machine and killing the pilot. Two of the three passengers aboard were seriously injured; the third escaped unharmed.
A Cessna 208B Grand Caravan was destroyed in a November 18 crash that occurred about 10 a.m. shortly after takeoff from Snow Lake Airport (CJE4) in Manitoba, 360 miles north of Winnipeg. The pilot was killed while the eight passengers aboard were seriously injured. Authorities were notified of the crash into a remote region east of the airport after one of the injured passengers used a cellphone to call for help.
Helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland has announced five new orders from the government of Egypt and Indonesia-based Susi Air. Egypt has signed a contract for three AW109 Power light twins. The Egyptian air force will operate these on behalf of the Ministry of Health for emergency medical services.
Piaggio has received three firm orders for the P.180 Avanti II twin turboprop–two from the United Arab Emirates military and another from Susi Air in Indonesia. The UAE air force will use its Avanti IIs for transportation of specialized staff and medical evacuation. An ambulance kit enables quick reconfiguration. The aircraft come with a complete integrated logistics support package, including training for pilots and maintenance technicians.
Cessna Aircraft has received new orders for 26 single-engine aircraft from companies in the Asia Pacific region.
Susi Air of Indonesia placed an order for six Model 208B Grand Caravan turboprops, one of which sits on the static display line here this week.
