Eclipse Aerospace’s new 550 very light jet will feature an enhanced vision system (EVS) sensor made by Lexavia. The Lexavia LFS6000 infrared sensor has a 640- by 480-sensor element and 4X zoom. EVS imagery will be displayed on the Eclipse 550’s MFD, which is part of the jet’s Innovative Solutions & Support Avio/IFMS flight deck. The EVS sensor is mounted in a low-profile housing that projects 1.42 inches above the fuselage nose surface.
Synthetic vision system
AgustaWestland is going glass in the AW119 single. On October 22 the company unveiled the AW119Kx, which features the Garmin G1000H integrated flight deck system with synthetic vision, moving map and highway in the sky and obstacle/terrain avoidance systems. Certification is scheduled for early next year. Life Flight Network is the launch customer, ordering 15 of the helicopters configured for helicopter EMS operations from its bases in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The helicopters will be outfitted to carry two patients.
The FAA issued draft Advisory Circular 25-11A, which provides advice on how head-up displays can be designed, tested and installed in Part 25 transport-category airplanes. However, the AC’s new HUD content, which is found in Appendix 6, clearly states that it is not a source of means of compliance for display of enhanced vision or synthetic vision system imagery on HUDs. The new Appendix 7 of the updated AC covers guidance for standards that should be considered for display of weather information on avionics.
Innovative Solutions & Support (IS&S) is introducing a new, integrated multifunction standby unit (IMSU) for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft that measures, processes and displays altitude, airspeed, slip/skid and navigation data in a single display. The unit features a high-resolution LCD with LED backlighting that automatically adjusts for cockpit lighting.
Jetcraft Avionics is unveiling an enhanced flight vision system (EFVS) that will be available for aftermarket retrofit in business jets.
Pilatus Business Aircraft will offer a Garmin G600 New Perspective glass panel avionics retrofit for its legacy (pre-NG) PC-12 turboprop singles through its authorized and satellite service centers. Garmin is expected to receive supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for the installation late this year. All marketing and sales for the STC is being conducted through the Pilatus sales and service center network. Several centers already have begun accepting customer orders for the system.
Hilton Software (Booth No. 3064) has added key new features to its WingX Pro 7 iPad moving-map software, including integration with the X-Plane flight simulator and a terrain and obstacle ground proximity warning system (GPWS) that includes a terrain profile. The GPWS also provides a look-ahead function to warn pilots of impending impact with terrain or obstacles.
Astronics is forging ahead after purchasing enhanced vision system (EVS) maker Max-Viz in early August and recently signed an installation agreement with Hawker Beechcraft. Under the agreement, Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support will have the opportunity to install Max-Viz infrared EVS in any King Air equipped with an MFD that can display video images, according to Astronics president and CEO Peter Gundermann.
Charter provider Amira Air of Vienna, Austria, became the first operator of Bombardier’s new Global Vision flight deck. The cockpit is installed on a Global 5000 owned by Nikki Lauda, three-time Formula One world champion, airline owner and pilot. The legendary racing driver has been using the airplane to travel among F1 races and to other destinations, since receiving the airplane in April.
In mid-July, Bombardier made a flight-test Learjet 40 available to demonstrate the capabilities of the Garmin G5000 integrated flight deck that is a key feature in the new Learjet 70 and 75. This Learjet 40 is one of two flight-test articles flying in the 70/75 program and the first jet to fly with Garmin’s first Part 25 avionics suite, which is branded as the Vision cockpit for the Learjet application and the first Part 25 avionics system with touchscreen control.
