Honeywell is on the verge of gaining FAA certification approval for retrofit versions of its Primus Epic integrated avionics suite. Targeting older medium and heavy business jets, Primus Epic CDS/R (control display system/retrofit) has been developed to transform steam-gauge-driven dinosaurs into state-of-the-art hot rods capable of meeting airspace operating requirements for the next decade or more.
Saab Systems (Stand W326) has developed a new software suite and integration platform that allows users to connect a wide variety of systems to a common network, without the need for expensive hard-coding and software integration. Known as WISE (widely integrated systems environment), the system has a number of applications but is particularly well-suited to military training involving differing platforms and services.
CMC Electronics unveiled the third generation of its SureSight enhanced-vision system (EVS) at the show, taking the wraps off the CMA-2700 infrared camera. Bombardier has selected the system for the Global Express XRS and 5000, which will be integrated with an LCD-based HUD from Rockwell Collins that is also coming to the models. The EVS will replace the Global’s current CMA-2600 EVS, which will continue flying aboard EVS-equipped Falcons.
Facing a requirement to pay down debt related to its $1.5 billion purchase of TRW Aeronautical Systems late last year, Goodrich has struck a deal to sell its avionics business to New York-based L-3 Communications. Valued at $188 million, the transaction now awaits regulatory approval, understood to be more or less a formality.
Ryan International, the Columbus, Ohio manufacturer of traffic-collision awareness devices, has introduced a 3-ATI hazard MFD that is capable of providing traffic, terrain and weather information on a single color LCD. The company’s Multi-Hazard Display is designed for use with the Ryan 990BX traffic advisory system.
The display systems division of L-3 Communications has unveiled a new 6.5-inch color multifunction display that is designed to interface with TCAS, TAWS, weather radar, moving maps and video. Targeted at the air-transport and business-aircraft markets, the PVI 600 is scheduled for certification and first deliveries late this year.
An investigation into problems with the quality of flight-data recorder information has led the NTSB to recommend modifications to FDR processing systems on several regional jet models and to ask the FAA to survey all aircraft models with FDRs to ensure that all required information is being processed.
Garrett Aviation has selected Rockwell Collins to provide elements of its Pro Line 21 avionics as part of a retrofit program aimed at upgrading Cessna Citation 501s. System deliveries are scheduled to begin in January.
Duncan Aviation has appointed Scott Shefke as Bombardier Challenger technical representative. He will serve as the technical advisor to Challenger customers and Duncan Aviation’s Challenger teams. “In the last three years, our Challenger business has grown to a point where it became obvious we needed to support customers with a dedicated technical representative,” said Rich Baeder, Duncan’s vice president of aircraft and FBO services.
Showing signs that it is getting back on a solid footing after nearly being KO’d by an ugly patent lawsuit, Sandel Avionics announced that three regional airlines have chosen its ST3400 terrain awareness and warning system to provide TAWS compliance for their Beech 1900 fleets.
